Susana R. Marino, MD, PhD, diplomate ABHI, has been active in the fields of histocompatibility, immunogenetics, and transplantation immunobiology for more than 20 years. Professor in Pathology and the founding director of the Transplant Immunology and Immunogenetics Laboratory, Marino created one of only four American Society of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics-approved fellowship programs in the nation. Her major interests include pre-transplant risk assessment testing in solid organ transplant patients and identification of genomic and proteomic markers for hematopoietic cell transplant donor selection. Marino has identified, characterized, and published several new HLA alleles, has co-authored book chapters, and has a significant number of publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Marino has been invited to give national and international lectures in the field of immunogenetics and transplantation, and is an active member of the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics as well as the American Society of Transplantation, among others.
