Shu-Yuan Xiao, MD, joined the University of Chicago in 2009 as Professor in Pathology. His clinical expertise lay in gastrointestinal, pancreatobiliary and liver pathology. Xiao has contributed to more than 130 peer-reviewed publications and eight book chapters, and has also authored two books: Liver Pathology and Atlas and Synopsis of Gastrointestinal Pathology. As a National Research Council research associate, he helped develop technology to quickly diagnosis the hantavirus infection. Xiao received a J. E. Fogarty Fellowship to conduct postdoctoral research at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. He completed his residency in anatomic and clinical pathology and a fellowship in gastrointestinal and liver pathology at the University of Chicago. He previously was on the faculty at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and at the Weill Cornell Medical College in New York.
